7 tips for swollen feet

It might seem that swelling and pain in the legs only bother that part of the population that sits all day at work. However, long and prolonged sitting is definitely not good for our legs. Are you also one of those who spends all day at an office desk and feels heavy in your legs or do you suffer from pain or swelling in them? These problems are caused by the fact that long sitting slows down and worsens blood flow in the lower limbs, which is why the blood cannot be drained back to the heart quickly enough and some of the blood accumulates in the limbs. And since humans were created to move and not to sit for long periods of time, muscles also weaken. However, you don't have to blame time, work or your employer, you just need to pamper your legs a little.

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR FEET

1. Get a height-adjustable desk

Many problems can be prevented by proper ergonomics of your workplace. You will really relieve your legs if you get a height-adjustable desk that allows you to adjust its height according to your needs and alternate working positions, both standing and sitting.

2. Use a massage cradle and an active footrest

When working while sitting, a massage cradle will provide comfort to your feet. It massages your feet and forces your lower limbs into a gentle rocking motion, employing most of the muscles in your lower limbs, which promotes blood circulation. When standing, you will definitely appreciate an active footrest, the use of which imitates walking, so it activates most of the muscles in your feet and relaxes the tendons in your limbs, thereby preventing swelling of your legs and the formation of varicose veins.

3. Throw your etiquette behind you and put your feet on the table

After reading this article, you will no longer be afraid to throw away your usual etiquette and put your feet on the table for at least a few minutes during working hours. This is a real balm for our feet, which experts recommend, it will get the blood and lymph flowing in the lower extremities. However, not all of us can afford this luxury at work, and some colleagues and bosses in particular would not be able to breathe. So treat your feet to this relaxation every day for at least 15 minutes at home after work.

4. If circumstances allow you, change your shoes

It is not entirely ideal to put on one pair of shoes in the morning when leaving for work and take them off only in the evening. In terms of comfort and hygiene, your feet will benefit if you change shoes at work. All you have to do is replace closed, impermeable shoes with comfortable and breathable ones. Some companies require a strict dress code and employees must adhere to the rules of dress and footwear, but unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Where these regulations do not apply, a manager can also wear slippers, of course, if he does not have a meeting.

5. Maintain regular exercise

Regular exercise is the basis for preventing pain and swelling in your legs. Just swim, ride a bike or go for a walk for at least 30 minutes a few times a week. Take regular breaks at work and try to walk a little or try marching in place, alternating between walking on tiptoe, heels and full feet. You can also exercise while sitting, e.g. curling and spreading your fingers, rotating your ankles to both sides, and alternately lifting your heel and toe.

6. Alternate between cold and warm water

You will do your feet a great service if you alternate between washing them with warm and cold water every time you shower. If you prefer a bath, include a cold shower for your feet at the end of the bath. You can also do nothing wrong with a foot massage.

7. Don't sit with your legs crossed, it's only good for etiquette and aesthetics

And if you add sitting with one leg over the other to sitting for a long time, it's downright deadly for our legs. Sitting with your legs crossed is the best and most elegant choice in terms of social behavior, as all etiquette and aesthetics experts tell us, especially for women wearing dresses and skirts. But from a health perspective, it's a complete disaster for our legs. This sitting position can cause blockage of veins and nerves, which results in varicose veins.

If you have been suffering from pain and swelling in your legs for a long time, always in the same places and with increasing intensity, don't hesitate to see a doctor immediately. These may be more serious problems and it's never advisable to underestimate them.
