Polybutylene terephthalate, otherwise known as PBT plastic, is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic from the group of polyester-based polymers. Like other polyesters, the PBT polymer is particularly suitable for applications in the food industry due to its excellent resistance to chlorine and caustic cleaning solutions. PBT polyester material is also characterized by high strength, stiffness and resistance to thermal deformation, as well as very high dimensional stability and high yield strength. PBT polymers, like all polyesters, have very good friction and wear properties. Compared to polyester PET, PBT has better impact resistance, especially at low temperatures. Due to this property, PBT can be significantly better modified by the addition of fibrous fillers than PET, and is therefore also generally available as fiber-reinforced products.
